Born in London, Matt's musical journey began with entertaining his babysitters by singing Beatles songs in bed at night. As a child of the 80s he painted his face like Adam Ant before briefly (and unsuccessfully) attempting to master breakdancing.
In 1987 Guns n’ Roses happened and fluorescent branded clothes gave way overnight to ripped jeans and leather jackets. He took up drums in an attempt to make as much noise as possible and played mostly GnR covers with his mates in a loose collective they called “The Clouds”.
Drums kept him engaged until university when Matt moved to Cardiff and had to leave his kit behind. So it was at this time Matt took up guitar and song-writing.
He kept up with guitar during the following years, honing his playing and song-writing skills. When his parents sold his drums kit whilst he was away studying, his future path was set.
Matt's musical influences moved from hard rock, through thrash metal then on to grunge, before widening out to encompass most genres. His main musical influences include Pearl Jam, The Stone Roses, The Doors and, of course, The Beatles, and he’s just as happy listening to Frank Sinatra as Megadeth.
Matt joined the Superpowers in 2012 and is now one of the main songwriters for the band. He is the genius behind Our Last Summer, On The Way, High Above Me, Godlike and the yet to be recorded Ordinary. His music is anarchic and punky, but also melodic and literate. His live performances are engaging and energetic - all of the qualities that make a perfect front-man.
